On the hunt for trousers

Jan 22, 2012 21:22

Hi everyone! I was hoping some of you might have a suggestion for me. I'm looking for dress pants for work, but because I'm so tall it causes a few problems. The first is, of course, length! I wear an 18/20 Tall from LB for reference, and I wear the 'yellow' sizes because I basically have no hips, hah. I also can fit into some 18 or 20 'straight' ( Read more... )

I saw those on the site!! They're pretty gorgeous -- but only a 32 inch inseam. How tall are you, if I may ask? I'm 6'0, and tend to need a 34 inseam, though that varies depending on the pants -- and those might work.

5"9 and i need a 33 to feel comfortable. these might be a bit shorter than a 34, but you could always let the fold down and rehem them

I'm also a yellow and I've recently found that Targt brand fit 3 is PERFECT. Might want to look in to them. Oh, and if you hate pants that stretch and lose their shape, stay away from Old Navy. I've just decided to get rid of some rather new Old Navy pants because they completely lose their shape by mid morning. It's so frustrating...

seconding the old navy problem. i bought some great cords that fit fine right out of the dryer, then by 10am they're falling off my backside.

You're not the first person to tell me this!! A friend of mine raves about the fit 3's -- I need to go in and try them on.

Thanks for the tip about Old Navy. :\ That's so frustrating, ugh, I can't stand it when pants do that and you get Saggy Butt Syndrome. Boooo Old Navy, booo.

Eloquii? The selection is annoyingly limited for tall inseams, and I can't totally speak to the fit for you since I buy their "curvy" line and you'd probably be more "classic," but I really like the fabric of their Exact Stretch Bootcut pants. Just enough stretch to be comfortable but still maintains its shape.

Oh, thanks for this! I haven't bought anything from Eloquii yet, basically because I hate it that you can't try it on in the store -- though I know it's coming this year.

I might try them -- can you make returns at The Limited if it doesn't fit, or does it have to be mailed back?

I'm pretty sure returns have to be mailed back (at least for now), but they do include a pre-paid UPS label with all their packages, so it's free and relatively easy.

Oh thank you! I never even thought of Talbots!

I buy most of my work clothes from Talbots. They have plus and tall sizes. Watch for care labels; a lot of their stuff is dry clean only. But I find it wears well and fits great.

I've had really good luck with both Gap and alloy.com in terms of finding nice trousers that are long enough. Alloy us awesome in that they carry a pretty big range of sizes AND inseams. I think their longest is 37" inseam?

How do you like the Gap specifically for pants? I've been seriously considering giving them a try, but have hesitated because I just wasn't sure.

Honestly, I have been really happy with them. They were the first pair of pants that were actually long enough for me. The quality was always good, and they seemed to be pretty durable. I'm hard on pants, and mine never seemed to show any signs of it.
