Outfit ideas for a shindig and a brief-ish Torrid boot review

Hi everybody,

I need shipwreck or tropical island-themed costume/outfit ideas for a party I'm going to on the 1st. It's a cocktail-level party, but we get a choice between showing up in costume or in cocktail-ish attire. I'd prefer to show up in costume, but I have several cocktail dresses to wear if things don't pan out.

To aid you in your search, I'm a short-waisted, large-busted, size 26/28 with flat/straight hips. Basically, I'm shaped like a number 8...or a cello.

Also, it's on the 1st, so if I have to order online, I need it to show up no later than September 30th with the cheapest available shipping.

Now, on to the review.

Last month I purchased the Toya Black Lace-Up Combat Boot from Torrid in a size 11. I'd been on the hunt for a knee-high combat boot for MONTHS now, and after a failed attempt with the Nana Pole Climber at Hot Topic (foot was too small, calf was too small), I'd settled on these.

The foot fits fine, thanks to Torrid's catering to wider feet (though the ever-increasing amount of medium-width shoes pisses me off to no end), but I'd need to go up to a 12 if I want to wear anything heavier than tights with it.

I'm a size 11D with 21" calves and 10" ankles, and they lace up with absolutely no gaps between the tongue and the sides. The boots list the calf size for a size 11 as 18.58", so they SERIOUSLY low-balled their measurements. The only thing I take issue with is that the ankles are baggy as all fuck. Tightly laced, it looks like I could lose about an inch on either side of the back seam. Unfortunately, I'm sure that if I tried to take them to a boot repair shop, they'd either laugh me out of the shop or tell me that they'd basically have to rebuild the whole boot to fix the ankle. The ideal fix for me would be to somehow remove the enormous elastic gusset that runs the entire length of the boot, or at least remove it from the sole of the boot up to about an inch above my ankle.
