Coats and warm pants

Nov 06, 2010 14:12

So it's starting to get cold around here and I have yet to get a good coat for the winter. (Yes I have last year's, but I happen to be larger this year, plus it could use a replacement anyway.) Right now, I'm looking at this parka by Lands' End, but before buying, I was wondering if any of you have used this coat and could comment on how warm it is. I live in the midwest so it can get pretty cold, and I have a tendency to layer a ton, so toasty warm coats tend to be very attractive to me. :P If you happen to know of any other coats that you think look better/more fatshionable while still being really warm, I wouldn't mind more suggestions.

As a side question, I'm one of those crazies that wear pants year-around, but the downside to that is my pants probably aren't the best suited for winter. What do you like to do to keep your legs warm during the winter? Should I consider wearing leggings under my pants on days I particularly want to keep warm, or are there better options?

If it helps, I generally wear 18/20 on top (though my last jacket was more like 22/24), and I wear about a 24 on the bottom; I also carry most of my weight in my boobs, stomach and hips/butt.
