Meh. I made one comment. That isn't "the whole internet," and I'm not sure how I'm "holding anyone accountable" for my reaction. I just did something I wouldn't normally do, which is communicate about what I saw in the icon and username. And all I said is that I wish it was different. I didn't say the OP "shouldn't" do or say anything at all; I just gave a written reaction.
I just feel like there's a backlash against the OP for something I don't remember being listed in the community's rules. The OP isn't talking about anything prohibited at all, and I doubt the OP is the only member who joined for the specific reasons listed. The community might be geared towards FA but I imagine not all members are.
I'm not really going to sit here and debate this any more, but still. You all are jumping to conclusions and reacting with your gut to a picture of a scale. Nothing in the rules about usernames or icons, so I don't see why I have to continue to point out the obvious.
And it's not as if her icon OR her username is explicitly mentioning EDs.
I agree, too. The user name less of me is triggering to me, as well. And yes, I do understand that as soon as we take one step away from this place, it's absolutely everywhere and triggering as well. And the internet is not a "safe" place whatsoever. Still, I like the semblance of a safe place that is free of diet mentality.
If you read the community's rule, which are in the profile here you'll see that the first rule is that fatshionista is a political community. Not everyone here may be interested in politics, but this group was founded, and is maintained, by size-positive activists.
Rule #5 says fatshionista is not a place for the discussion of dieting or weight loss. Value free discussions of changes in size are fine. For instance "My favorite jeans don’t fit anymore, I need new ones in an 18, any suggestions?"
