Desperately Seeking Your Advice: Clothing Swaps and Options for Tall Inbetweenies

I have two significant events coming up this weekend and I am a total n00b to both.

First is a clothing swap, which I'm actually co-hosting, despite having never ever been to one. I've read just about everything that the Internet has to say when you Google "clothing swap," but I'm still not quite sure what works best, procedurally speaking.

Seems like some folk go all out and borrow a garment rack and others just throw it all in a pile on the bed. Some hand out tokens based on how many items you bring to the swap, but that seems simultaneously anal retentive and possibly sketchy to me. (I mean, it's all between friends, but/so it hardly seems "fair" that someone who brings a dozen stained t-shirts would get a dozen choice items, while someone else who doesn't have much to spare or who brings a couple of primo dresses only gets two items to take home.)

Have you been to a swap? Hosted one? What works and what doesn't, in your opinion? What's fun, what keeps things moving, and what unnecessarily complicates the whole thing? Thoughts?

My second fun time will be a Sunday helping a friend revamp her wardrobe. She's shaped similarly to me (hourglass/pear), so I feel pretty good about that.

Only one problem. I'm 5'2" and a size 6.5-7 shoe. She's 5'10" and wears a 10 or 11 shoe.

Help! Where do tall inbetweenie folks get their long-enough jeans and non-midriff-baring tops? How about shoes for larger feet? Given that all my shirts hang past my tuchus and I'm constantly hemming my jeans, I have no idea where to start. My friend is a small inbetweenie (12-16), so we'll probably end up shopping straight stores, but obviously we need to be hitting the places that actually carry anything over a 10/12. And that fit tall drinks of water such as herself.

We live in a major metro area (DC), so most chain stores are within reach. And of course, any DC-specific shops (especially in MoCo or downtown) are of interest as well.

Any thoughts?
