A Lily0808168 review

Alas.

A few weeks ago, I thought I might take the plunge and order some stuff from the infamous Chinese store on ebay. Everything is so cute! So I read up all the reviews I could find on here and it transpired that sizing generally runs a bit small. I ordered 2 tops and 2 dresses, and based on the cut and fabric, I ordered two of them in my size (I'm smack bang in the middle of the XL on the charts) and two in a size larger ( a 1X). The parcel arrived today and I was giddy as a schoolgirl. Until I opened it.

The first was this coat dress in 1X. It seemed to be kind of fitted so I thought I'd go up a size and got it in a 1X. And this is what I got.

Front and back views, uhh, okay, but from the side,

not so much. This thing is huge on me. It about fits on the arms (I've had a legendary problem with clothes fitting right everywhere but being too tight around the arms) but the rest of it is just...shapeless. Which is such a pity since this is an incredibly pretty dress. It lined all through and has the loveliest pintucks and pleats. This is prolly going on a sales post this friday.

Next up, this top in a 1X as well.

Front and back views, again, more of less okay, but shapeless from the side again.

I do concede though that this is marginally less sacklike than the dress but still too loose to be fitted as its meant to be. Also, I had been expecting the material to be chiffon but this is cotton. Which is not bad atall, just not what I'd expected it to be. Friday sales post as well.

And then there was the grey chiffon Victorianesque top I'd been planning whole outfits around. Well, its neither grey nor chiffon.

Its black satin! I cannot stand satin for the life of me and its still too huge to boot.

I got this in an XL (my size) expecting it to be drapey and flowy. But its black satin. *sadface* This too will the seeing the light of a sales post in the hope that someone out there likes satin more than I do.

Last of all was this babydoll dress, which was the only success of this mission.

Its an XL and meant to be loose like the black satin one but since this is made of chiffon, its flows better. I think I can wear this one with stompy boots and a biker jacket. The bib like collar bit kind of puffs out in a weird way still but at least its salvagable.

So, the verdict - sizing up doesn't help. Also, the garments have a tendency to be fitted on the shoulders and be looser from there on. What I read in this post about Lily's sizing certainly seems not to be the case anymore. Maybe they're using a different fit pattern? *confuzzled*

For reference, I'm 5'8, 200lbs and wear pretty much a solid 14(UK) and measure 41-33-42.
