Flying on Continental?

I know everyone's probably seen the hullabaloo about United Airlines charging fat people for two seats...well, apparently Continental has the same policy. I need to fly to Syracuse from Seattle in July and the ONLY options are US Air, Continental, and United. Obviously I'd automatically opt for the US Air flight but I've got to check into my housing for the week by 11PM and their flights arrive around 9:45, which cuts it close. Even if I *do* fly US Air one way, I can't find a round-trip ticket for a reasonably affordable price that has them as a round trip fare and the return ticket is on either United or Continental.

JetBlue does fly but only using an overnight arriving on Friday morning or arriving too late on Thursday evening for me to be able to check into my housing. Also, they cost plenty.

The last time I flew was last summer and I fit (tightly) in a (BA?) jet then and did use a belt extender, although just barely. I wear a LB Right Fit size 8 or a 28/30 in pants. I have wide shoulders (at the bone they're at least 17", woo, which is just under the width of a seat.

Has anyone flown Continental? Anyone roughly my size flown Continental? Am I likely to fall afoul of the DEATH FAT! people buy 2 seats rule in anyone else's experience?

This is giving me a headache and really causing my anxiety to flare.
