the mystery of bras

A question for you all regarding the ever-troublesome undergarment known as the *#)$#%!! bra:

I have had a professional bra fitting - several, in fact - at Nordstrom. Now, Nordstrom isn't really known for carrying bras for fats, but I decided to start there since I knew that was one place I could at least get an accurate fitting, and I know that they carry quality bras. If I weren't fat, I'd be small-chested - big boobs don't run in my family - so I don't have an exceptionally big chest (42/44 DD-DDD depending on the bra, and a size 18-22 blouse depending) and I was able to find a style that not only fit me well (Wacoal 85814) but - and here's my problem with every other bra, ever - THE STRAPS NEVER FELL DOWN, EVER.

Now I'm having some problems with this style: the bra comes up fairly high on the breastbone, and lately even new ones have been doing this thing where the wire at top of the cups over the breastbone between the boobs pushes out and makes visible tent (haha, for lack of a better term) under my blouse. This announces: HELLO EVERYONE I AM WEARING AN UNDERWIRE BRA. Supremely annoying!

So I've started looking for another bra style, and lately I picked up a padded cup low-cut style from Avenue. It's really comfortable, the back doesn't roll and the fabric is that smooth-under-a-tshirt syle, and it's almost a plunge so no more HELLO THERE'S MY BRA right between my boobs. But here's my problem: the *#&$(*#!@& straps won't stay up!! Shortening them not only doesn't work but isn't the right answer as that causes the bra band to ride up higher on my back, throwing the whole fit of the bra off.

I have fairly narrow shoulders and need a bra where the straps start about midway across the cup instead of at the far end of each cup. The sad fact is that (in my experience) these are few and far between, especially for plus size boobs or in attractive styles. I have purchased and regretted purchasing countless bras due to this problem. Am I alone? Does anyone else have this problem? Does anyone spend all freaking day pulling up brastraps and cursing fate, bra manufacturers, and the history of women's undergarments? Does anyone have a favorite bra brand/style they love? I'd love to hear from anyone else who has this problem and what they did to solve it.

Thanks!
