For as much as people recommend getting measured for bras, I haven't had very good luck with the results. An actual specialty lingerie store or department store where the ladies have been measuring forever is a better bet, if you're unsure about what you should be buying. A typical LB sales clerk with a measuring tape probably won't do a better job than you could do yourself.

When you're wearing your bras, is the band "level" from front to back? To get lift in the front, I used to adjust straps up short, which would inevitably have the back creeping up all day- AND- would mean that the underwires would end up lodged in my armpits. When a bra is new, try buying it so that it fits, lifts, and shapes correctly with the straps adjusted to their full length and the back is on the furthest out hook. Then as it stretches out over time (or if you're like me and wear them more than once before washing), you can shorten the straps and move the hooks inward on the back.

It took me awhile to find one that worked, but if you can sit down and the underwires don't move and stay flat to the sides of your breasts, it's probably the right size and the band is low enough. When you're trying them on, move your arms around like you're doing the YMCA and sit/stand a few times. Needing slight adjustment is pretty normal but if you feel like it's totally out of place, it's probably the wrong fit. Something with a band below the cups or that "sticky" stuff they put on strapless bra bands could help it from creeping up so much. Also, don't be afraid to have a lot of different styles of bras, depending on what you're doing. There are hybrid sports bras that can still give you nice shape and cleavage, but stay but a lot better when you're being more active. Having some great lacy, soft leisure bras with no underwires is also a great option, if you want cute without the hassle.
