Bridesmaid Dress/Bra/Shoe Help!

Dec 29, 2008 13:56

My darling (seriously not an ounce of sarcasm here) sister is getting married in August and she FINALLY picked the company for the bridesmaid dresses. Now I am trying to decide on a style. I was measured as 43.5, 39.5, 48, which puts me at a size 22 in Jasmine Bridal's B2 bridesmaid line. They seem to run even smaller than other bridesmaid companies.

The only requirements my sister has are: knee- or tea-length, chiffon, in the color "scarlet" (which is actually a beautiful red-violet color, not red as it seems, or maroony purple as it looks online). She doesn't care if my dress is really cleavagey as long as she doesn't (ever, not even for a second) see any part of my bra.

I'm thinking about B9041, B1081, B1095, or B2032.

I know nothing about clothing alterations, and obviously the top of my dress will need to be altered quite a bit, since my ribcage/rack are significantly smaller than my hips. I have small-ish boobs for my frame, a really defined waist and a ski-jump kind of tummy that falls numerically and anatomically in between my waist and hips(44-ish inches). I'd love any and all input on those dresses (especially from experienced seamstress/tailor types), as well as suggestions of other styles you think might work. The only part of my body that I am at all concerned about is my back/shoulders, just because I'm not used to wearing strapless stuff and I don't have very good posture, which makes me kind of iffy about B2032.

My favorite style is B9041, but it's really frickin' hard to tell what that dress would look like on a "plump dumpling" like me. I also don't know if that style would make me have to wear some kind of intense bra contraption in order for it not to show.

My sister asked if I think getting cups put into the dress would work for me, and I have NO IDEA about that. Thoughts?

I'm somewhere around a 40C/D, and I'm willing to spend up to $80 on a good bra that is comfortable and supportive if that installed-cup idea wouldn't work for me. Any suggestions?

My other question is about shoes. The wedding is going to be in a field in Vermont, weather permitting. I wear a 7.5 wide, and I'm not so good at walking in heels, but am willing to practice until I am, as long as they are comfortable, but walking in heels in a field is a little different. My sister says anything besides boots are fine, as long as I feel comfortable and they are dress-appropriate, and she's thinking black or silver would be ideal. I'm not such a fan of strappy styles, but open-toed is ok. I think my budget for shoes is about $100, as long as I can wear them multiple times. I'd love some ideas!

Thank you in advance for all of your help, and honesty is appreciated, though I can't change the dress company, fabric, or color, obv, so negative comments about that aren't going to be helpful.
