Winter Coats- a review

Dec 17, 2008 20:51

I wanted to let all y'all know that I just bought a new winter coat, and I LOVE it.

I haven't had a really good winter coat for probably ten years- I've been layering and layering, and shivering at bus stops, and thought it was time to bring that to an end.

I splurged on this winter coat, from Land's End. It is rated to 5 deg (f), and with a "light layer", -5.

So far, if I wear a light layer, like a cardigan (over a regular long-sleeved T) when it is super cold, I am fairly warm. Not toasty, exactly, but definitely far, far warmer than I've ever been. Keep in mind that I live in Chicago, on the far Northeast side, so I get the wind off the lake while standing around bus stops on Clark St. All in all, I'm very happy with it, especially for the price. There is another coat that is rated to -15, for $30 more, but I don't regret not shelling out the extra money.

(For the fashion-oriented folks- I got the teal coat, and bought "berry" colored gloves, hat, and scarf to accent. My fashion designer/seamstress housemate approves heartily.)

I also bought these shoe-boots. They are very cozy, 100% waterproof, have great traction, and look like sneakers when you wear them with jeans (a huge requirement for me!).

I run on average of a size 24 (I very honestly have no idea what I weigh), and bought the 3x coat. It fits perfectly, with some room for layering, but not a whole lot. I bought a size 8 1/2 boots, and they are perfect.

I hope this helps some of y'all out there this winter. If you live in my neighborhood and see my teal-and-berry outfit on the street, please feel free to say hi!
