With just a little internet searching, I found mid-week tickets, from Chicago (where I live) to Paris for much less than the $2600 round trip. More like $700 round trip before taxes, etc. So more like $2500 for three round trips, I think. With the added advantage of not having my insides tied up into a little knot with possible serious life-long complications.
Yes, and it's cheaper to fly out of large cities like Chicago. Don't assume that everyone lives near a major international airport, and prices change dramatically.
