being too fat for plane seats

Oct 22, 2008 22:52

i am flying on southwest airlines on saturday, and just read about their
policy to ask you to buy a second seat if you can't get the seat divider down between
you and the next person. i don't think i'm any heavier than i was the last time
i flew, and i can fit in the seat although i need a belt extension. i do however
feel i compromise the person next to me by my upper arms, but no one has ever
expressed it as a problem before. my question is, does southwest go up to you and
ask you to buy another ticket if they deem you compromising the person next to you,
or do you decide that for yourself? has anyone had anyone be rude to them
about it? i am really worried. i am handicapped besides being fat, and it will
be a pain to have to purchase another ticket once i'm already on the plane(although
my husband could forseeably do it for me i suppose). also i am worried about the
open seating and not being able to sit next to him if it's crowded. does anyone
know if they call handicapped folks to board first? it says at their website that
the large are suppposed to p re-board to see if they fit in the seats....
any info could put me at ease...
