OOTD: new acquisitions

Oct 08, 2008 20:35

I wasn’t up to anything special on this gloomy afternoon, so I decided to play dress-up with some of the new clothes and shoes I got in the last week.

(Does anyone else have no idea what to do with her arms when a camera's pointed at her?)

Dress: Suzi Chin Maggy Boutique via Nordstrom, size 16W.

Brooch: Anastasia’s Antiques in Philadelphia
Boots: Franco Sarto from Nordstrom Rack, size 13M (wow, my shoe size is sneaking up on my clothing size!)

When DHL brought this dress this morning and I put it on three minutes later, my husband said it was very Joan Hollaway, which is the highest compliment I could ask for. Now I need a gold pen to wear around my neck.

If anyone is planning on buying this dress, beware the pricing. It was on sale on Nordstrom.com for $118, but I saw one in the store in a different size for $70. The clerk at the store ordered the correct size for me over the phone and they gave me free expedited shipping as well as the lower, in-store price. Yay, Nordstrom! I had it within two days and saved almost $60.

These boots were a huge and pleasant surprise. I saw them hanging on the rack and assumed they wouldn’t fit (as a size 12 shoe-wearer, I’m used to that disappointment). When I saw that they were 13s I was hopeful, but still doubted they’d fit over my calves, especially when I noticed that there was no closure. But I tried anyway, and lo and behold, they’re almost perfect. They’re even a decent height - I’m only 5’10”, but it’s all in my lower leg, and allegedly knee-high boots are usually midcalf on me. And they were only $45! I am very pleased. Listings for similar boots from Franco Sarto on Nordstrom.com claim that the calf circumference is only 14”, but that’s clearly not the case, at least in the larger shoe sizes. My calves are 19” and these fit me fine, and because they’re 13s instead of the 12s I usually wear, I don’t have to worry about the slightly pointed toebox crushing my piggies.

This is what I wore today to run errands (and, apparently, to do the Robert Smith dance up and down my hallway like an enormous doofus):

(My cat: "What the fuck, dude?")

Dress: from Lvlylatinalady on a Friday sales post; originally New York & Co., size XL
Boots: Sudini from Nordstrom Rack. Size 13M.
Sweater: old; from J.Jill, size XL.
Necklace: Dominique Cohen for Target.

These black boots were another pleasant Nordstrom Rack surprise - they sure didn’t look like they’d fit my calves, but they’re also very comfy.

I’m going to a “Witches’ Night Out” fondue party in a few weeks, and I might just have to wear this pilgrim-esque ensemble (I’m making a witchy cocktail hat).
Dress: Black velvet, thrifted in CT this weekend; originally Evan Piccone, size 16
Boots: Fluevog “Mini Lover” in Spruce, size 12.

(Yes, I know Fluevogs aren’t to everyone’s taste, but I love them, these were a gift, and damnit, do you know how hard it is to find green boots in a 12?!?). As you can see they need some serious breaking in before they’ll lace properly.

More shoes I got this weekend:

Size 12M Nine West (from Nordstrom Rack)

Size 12W Hush Puppies from ShoeMall.com.

Size 12M red ballet flats from Payless (my first Payless shoes - they’re cheap as hell, but they’re handy for having near the door).

Another posting of weekend acquisitions to follow later in the week.

Me: 5’10”, 38E, no idea what I weigh, usually wear anywhere from a 14 to an 18, depending.

boots, shoes, ootd, successful shopping trips, costumes, nordstrom
