Ugh, this is like all of the things I hate about PETA and Maxim rolled into one. (Yes, I know that PETA had nothing to do with it, but they are all about the "Fat people are ugly, because they gorge themselves on cute animals" trope, which is one of the feelings I got from this slideshow.) The "Fatty or farm animal?" title made me think of fat camp, which is basically a kind of people farm. Icky.
Right, but PETA claims that vegetarianism = instantly lithe body. (If you want to see some truly gross PETA ads, click here. But I don't really recommend it!)
I really don't understand that logic, because there are so many things that are fattening that aren't meat. And a lot of the meat we eat tends to be leaner cuts.
PETA advocates a vegan diet low in processed foods, which is a great way to eat for a lot of reasons. However, they tend to skew towards "because you'll be thin!" because society values thinness over general health, and PETA puts out a lot of effort into fatphobic advertising (like meestagoat linked to. There are also the dueling stereotypes of sad emaciated vegetarian eating lettuce and fatty on TV cut off just below the eyes eating a Big Mac dripping with grease that we contend with in society. As a whole, people deal with food in an all-or-nothing way.
(I'm bigger and fatter as a vegetarian than I was as a meat eater, which really irks vegetarians who want me to be invisible because I'm ruining their beloved "But you'll lose weight!" conversion tool. I eat more food than I did before because everything I eat is delicious and I have the energy to exercise more so I have more muscle.)
