Ah, I see what you're talking about. It's not a rip. There's no ripped fabric or unseamed edges. It's where the buckle part fold over into the top of the shoulder seam. I'll explain through pictures:
Ok, here is a top view of the way the sleeve is. There's another strip of fabric that is underneath the shoulder seam where the lacing is, to reinforce the lacing so it doesn't rip the fabric. The "rip" that you saw is actually a gap between the lacing and the buckle part, made bigger from the weight of the buckle part.
Here is a side view. If worn correctly, the strip of fabric that reinforces the lacing will not show or will blend in with the other fabrics so it stays pretty hidden.
Here is the left sleeve, which has the same strip of fabric reinforcing the seam there, where the lacing is.

No worries! I just want to be clear about any damages on the clothes. :D There were a couple on the Sexpot cardigan that I tried to explain in full--I would hate to receive clothes with unknown damages!
