Detention and Sound of My Voice were absolute gems, and The Cabin In the Woods was another unexpected favorite. A+ list!

Do bear in mind the list of films I haven't been able to watch yet. Also films like Django Unchained and Zero Dark Thirty haven't been released in the UK yet.

But yeah, these are my personal favourites of 2012. Weird and proud. ;)

probably in the minority, but i couldn't stand skyfall.
there was no genuine emotional gravitas, just characters going through the motions. the only character i managed to feel anything for was killed off without the movie missing a beat.
it felt like sam mendes was channeling the overrated the dark knight, especially with javier bardem's character essentially acting as bond's joker, which just made the ridiculous action scenes even more off putting. it was very pretty to look at though.

loved the avengers, chronicle, cabin in the woods, detention, looper and safety not guaranteed

i need to check out sound of my voice, keep the lights on and a royal affair

I must admit, I'd never even heard of "Keep The Lights On" before. What makes that film stand out for you as one to watch? It appears to be more popular with critics (89% rotten tomatoes), but rather unsung by ordinary filmgoers (5.9 imdb).

As you know, most of the films you've mentioned there were ones I loved. I'm afraid I didn't find that "Safety Not Guaranteed" appealed to me at all though. The point where one of the characters starts playing a relatively long song he "wrote himself" on his guitar to another character, without any sense of irony, it finally dawned on me that this wasn't a film for me. (Was expecting that scene to be played for laughs, like when Scott Pilgrim plays his "Ramona" song. Became quite confused when I realised the scene was being played straight.)

I hope you enjoy "Sound Of My Voice" and "A Royal Affair". You certainly won't find any similarity to "The Dark Knight" with those two. ;)

residual love for zachary booth from damages mostly.
i know i'll either really enjoy it or really not like; relationship movies about broken people always fall into one of those two categories for me, zach's presence will probably sway me to the former.
finally, it's a gay movie with good cinematography and really that's the best one can hope for from the entire gay movie genre.

i was in full on pre-cringe mode when he started talking about the song he wrote, but i, surprisingly, actually really liked the melody in that song and the lyrics weren't cloyingly earnest so i appreciated.

i think i will, i really like brit marling and i love period movies, especially period costume movies, but for some reason i'm not the least bit interested in seeing anna karenina. i loooooved keira knightley in pride & prejudice and the duchess, but for some reason have no desire to see that movie, even though it also stars aaron johnson whom i also love. weird.

Keep The Lights On is a BRILLIANT film, well worth watching. Certainly more than "Spider-Man IV: We're Barely Trying."

I need to see The Grey. Your review just convinced me. I wasn't sure I wanted to see animals being slaughtered by Liam Neeson on screen, which is why I still haven't seen that movie.
