I was a world away, literally, over here in the UK. Thirteen I think and home from school. Remember watching the second plane hit and not actually believing what I was seeing. It felt like the whole world was holding its breath, even though I was sitting there watching it on my own.
I didn't know anyone involved personally, and haven't met anyone since, so I haven't been personally effected. But the way everyone, the world over seemed effected, seemed to sympathise and rally together and the bravery everyone there showed, kinda restored my faith in people a little, despite the fact it had been caused by people in the first place.
Four years later when every student and teacher at my college were gathered in one room watching the news about 7/7 on the television, people lending phones to eachother to help contact family, calling friends who werent in yet who commute via the tube to school, it made me believe in people again.
Its sad that it takes these kind of things for people to work together, but to me September 11th despite the tragedy of it, usually fills me with a measure of hope.
