I actually DO want to keep a vaguely regular journal rather than one with random, ridiculously angsty and lengthy entries about stress, and in order to stop myself from bottling everything up until I combust (figureatively), I am now going to write short, regular entries when possible. Today's entries will consist of... college thoughts. By ( Read more... )

Well, Barnard is technically one of three undergraduate colleges of Columbia, so if your heart's set on Columbia, ED at Barnard might not be such a bad bet? Having visited both schools, I was actually a bigger fan of Barnard than of Columbia College - Columbia College felt a little too cutthroat (and it didn't help that somehow, they always end up accepting dumb obnoxious kids from my high school :P ).

Damnit, why am I not good at math!?! I mean, I do AP Calculus, but I'm still not good/interested enough in it. Sometimes I hate being the stereotypical girl who's good at linguistics, history, and English. (And talk about total Asian fail???)

Well, I mean. At least you're not the stereotypical Asian? I do know where you're coming from, but hey, your interests (and talents) are what they are. Don't knock wordsmithing. *grin*

And most of the colleges I like are women's colleges because I am a feminist and proud of it and I can get a good education at these damn places goddamnit. It just pisses me off that other people, women included, react at me like they're expecting me to turn into a bitchy lesbian who doesn't shave or whatever.

The Seven Sisters kick ass, yo. Not that I'm biased or anything. *cough* In all seriousness, though, I adore being at Bryn Mawr, and I really liked Wellesley and Vassar (coed, but you get my drift) when I was visiting schools.

Yeah, Columbia accepted obnoxious kids from my school too, though they were way smarter and more accomplished than me despite their obnoxiousness. My friend's sister, who goes to Barnard, also mentioned that the main difference between Columbia and Barnard, really, is the fact that Columbia has more douchebags than Barnard does. And now that I'm one year older, I've realized that I don't admire the mindsets of the people who aspire to get into Ivy League schools though ANY means necessary.

While a flashier talent might be nice, I definitely appreciate wordsmithing and the people who do it. Except I now have problems becoming non-shallow friends with people who don't read, which is like, the majority of the people I know.

I have included some Seven Sisters colleges (including Bryn Mawr) on my list, though whether I'd get into any of them is definitely questionable. But douchebag levels seem very low at these colleges :)
