Summary: After their parents are killed in a plane crash, Ryuuichi and his younger brother Kotarou are taken in by the chairman, who they never met before, of an elite academy. Ryuuichi becomes the school daycare's new babysitter.
Kashima Ryuuichi and his baby brother Kotarou lose their parents in a plane accident. A mysterious benefactor who lost her son and his wife in the same accident offers to take them in, but after arriving at the school where this benefactor is chairman, Ryuuichi is dropped into the school's day care and told to form a babysitters club to look after the children of the school's teachers.
Review: Personally, I haven’t read a truly moe story until I read this one. Maybe it’s because my twin demons are almost 1 year old, and I have to go back to work after a year of maternity leave but I got teary eyed over this story often.
It’s about 2 orphan brothers who are at a lost as to what to do when their parents die in a plane crash. A woman whose own son and his wife died on the same plane takes in the 2 brothers in exchange for some work from the older brother. The woman will put them both through school and handle their living expenses as long as older brother takes on a job as a part time babysitter at a daycare for school teachers. The woman is the chairman of a local middle and high school. When the story starts, Ryuuichi is just in the middle of his 3rd year of middle school. But as he goes to the high school, he still must attend to the day care duties.
It’s tragically sad that Ryuuichi is attending a new school and environment w/o having any type of friends, social environment, and doing the typical things a teenager would be doing. Instead he has to not only take care of other people’s children, but his own baby brother all day long. His little brother also has to deal w/ sharing his older brother between the other children.
It’s an extremely cute and endearing story w/o any hint of romance for the main character. I also love the side characters as well. There’s the official underpaid day care worker who sleeps all day and is sarcastically amusing. And one of my favorite characters is the baseball player that is so stoic that he reminds me of Domeki of “xxxHOLIC”.
Most of the chapters are episodic and deal w/ some event about the kids in the day care or about Ryuuichi’s relationship w/ his little brother. Just a side note, the mangaka chose names for characters that all have to do w/ animals. Ryuuichi means dragon, and his brother’s means tiger.
It’s a wonderfully uber cute (tug your heartstring type of cute) story that I wouldn’t mind reading more about. The artwork is typical shoujo style, except the kids are eye melting cute...especially when they're crying or in fear.
