Summary: Meet the Sun Knight, the dashing leader of the Twelve Holy Knights. With his enchanting blue eyes, shining golden hair and dazzling smile he's the epitome of perfection - the perfect representative of justice and compassion. Now meet the Sun Knight's true self - the cynical, sarcastic man who would rather be anything else than be the overbearing Sun Knight who has to speaks of the Light God in all his waking hours.
Review: OMG this was such a great find! Not only is it full of bishies, but it's absolutely hilarious. It's categorized as shoujo, but thank god there is no romance. The artwork is very pretty, it's typical of shoujo art style but all the male characters have got really nice looking hair. Too bad its shoujo and not shounen-ai.
There are 12 Holy Knights that generation after generation are trained to take over the predecessors role, which include everything from the way the fight, act, talk, and appear in public. However, the true personalities of the current knights are often in direct contract to their public appearance. The lead character is the Sun Knight, the captain of the Holy Knights. In public he's perfect in everything from squatting, falling, abstinence and etc. However, his true personalities is that he resents others who can have girls, an alcoholic, gets jealous of others who don't have to smile, and is absolutely horrible at sword fighting. Basically, if not for his looks, he actually makes the worst Sun knight ever. Due to childish mistakes he ends up in the most unsuitable career for his skillsets.
The artwork is very pretty and enough to normally keep me reading. But the storyline is just so downright funny that it kept me really entertained about the torturous things the lead character and the rest of the knights have to go through.
The first volume is mostly about the Sun's daily life and sets up the fantasy world. The second volume starts setting up some sort of mystery or conspiracy that Sun must solve or his job and life may be at stake. The mystery involves a zombiefied knight trying to kill him. There's some action in the series, but it's mostly drawn to comedic affect. At the moment there are no main female leads, and it's mostly about the harem of bishie holy knights and their split personalities.
After reading and enjoying the manga, I tried the novel. This is the first time I’ve read a scanlation of a novel. I’ve read licensed English versions of Japanese novels before only. The scanlation does a pretty good job at flow even though it’s a bit short, but then again licensed work is short as well. In any case, reading the novel is like reading the manga. It has about the same amount of depth of character. The only thing that confused me was chapter 6 of the manga. The last couple dialogues appeared as if someone had hijacked it and put parody BL dialogue in there. It completely does not belong there and the novel doesn’t have that part in, so I wonder if that’s an April fool’s joke since the chapter was released today? The first volume of the novel has been completely scanlated, and brings the mystery of the death knight conspiracy to a close. The novel seemed a bit more shounen than shoujo. The main character, Sun, even does a power up via vampiric like t-shirt (similar to spiderman’s goopey suit). It goes even further that Sun would be a genius at any field but the one he ended up w/. Unfortunately, if he uses any of his other skills in public, he would lose his job. However, his sword skills are so lousy he would die soon if he didn’t employ those prohibitive skills covertly.
It’s definitely a series I recommend. Incidentally, this is the same author as“Half Prince”. Between the two series, I liked this one much better.
