Summary: Joonha is a normal, healthy boy of sixteen who has cruised through life without too many problems. Imagine his surprise when a recent trip to the bathroom suddenly reveals that he's not normal at all! With a shriek of "Oh, my God!!!," he finds himself missing, well, something he never thought he could live without. The impact is too much for poor Joonha and he soon passes out.
While in his half-conscious state, he overhears the incredible truth: his family is abnormal in the weirdest possible way. After puberty, their chromosomes undergo some kind of mutation, which converts their bodies into the opposite sex! Which means his father was a woman than turned into a man. Now Joonha has to leave behind 16 years of life as a man and live as a woman. What will his childhood friend Jinhoo and the girl he has always liked, Heewon, say when they find out?!
Review: Joonha has everything going perfect in his life. He's got an awesome male bestfriend, Jinhoo at his side. He's great looking, smart, atheletic, and even the girl of his dreams has just confessed to him. However, his perfect world comes crashing down when Joonha wakes up one day to see his male package gone. To hide his new condition, he now a she moves away without telling anyone. Three years later, Joohna is still struggling w/ her new gender, but even though she's enrolled as a female and wearing skirts, she still acts like a man. All the girls even have crushes on her despite the gender.
Heewon, not forgetting Joohna, searches for her and ends up enrolling in the same school, trying to figure out what has happened to the gender change. In the meantime, even his best friend Jinhoo has located him and still thinks she's a guy. Just when Jinhoo is finally over his gender crisis things come to head when he meets up w/ another guy that Jinhoo sees as the potential of what Jinhoo could have been if she had stayed as a man.
Most times in gender benders, once a gender switches from male to female, the girl begins to get really girly and think nothing about romance. Joonha actually stays a male in personality from beginning to end, which makes it enjoyable even though it's not romantic. Actually, Joonha's goal was to marry a gorgeous and brainy woman than have a slew of mistresses and kids on the side. She still regrets that chance when her gender changes. It's amusing about her manly instincts about kissing as well. She's such a seme in personality.
The ending was a bit sad and frustrating. I wish there was just one more chapter, but everything ended well and I wouldn't really call it a tragedy. Despite the ending, this is one of my favorite gender bender stories because it didn't center on the romance angle, actually there's wasn't much romance in the story line. It was more about Jinhoo dealing w/ the gender identity crisis, and love transcending genders.
The art work is good, Joonha still looks like a boy from beginning to end. Seeing her in a skirt is still a bit disconcerting. It's amusing that many people couldn't tell if she was a boy or a girl, but regardless of her gender she always has a female fan following.
