...Having a son means realizing that there is something in the world that is more important than anything else, no matter what. Having a daughter would be very much the same, I've no doubt.

Is that the way you feel, Cecil...? Is that what you feel when you think of your son?

I feel this way even when not thinking of him. With his birth, I finally had a family. Even if he'd not become such a wonderful person, I'd owe him forever for that.

A family...

[Looks down. Even when the room is dark, it's easy to see her saddened expression.]

Please... please tell me more.

[Indeed, it's easy to see. Which is why he'll start from the very beginning.]

...The moment we found out that my wife was pregnant, we started going through all the names we could think of. We wanted one that was perfect, a name he could be proud of his whole life. We must have begged everyone in the castle for suggestions a thousand times... In the end, we chose Ceodore. From 'Cecil' and 'Theodor', for my brother. We wanted him to always remember that he had a family, that he came from somewhere.

[you had to touch the pregnant part, didn't you.<(small>

Beatrice listens quietly, and smiles a bit when she hears the name and explanation.]

So... when Ceodore arrived... were you two happy?

[Totally not deliberate, nope.]

Of course. We were so happy that we were rather remiss in our duties, during the first few weeks of his life. We'd run off to see him every moment we could, even if the courtiers were looking for us. It annoyed quite a few people.

[That stole a quiet laugh.]

I'm sure he was pretty small. And warm, am I wrong? I'm sure you could just hold him for hours...

[His own is slightly less quiet.]

He was so warm, we were at first certain that he had a fever. We kept wondering if we should give him looser clothing, if one of us should stay by his side to fan him... But as time went, holding that warmth against our hearts became the most reassuring feeling in the world.
