Preston doesn't know why he's here but he's here after long thinking and looking for more about Mary. More about the Mysterious Jurgen and...
I wonder what the othesr would make of this place?
So many others, but right now the only one who mattered was her. Staring at him.
He thought of the ribbon in his pocket and continued to stare.

Silence gets tedious, and eventually she says, calmly,
"My combustion's scheduled for dusk tonight."
Stating the obvious. A safe maneuver.
She's eyeing the table now.
"... you keep coming here."

Somewhere outside a klaxon begins to sound. Preston's watch beeps in time with the strange dystopian music on his wrist. He glances nervously at the door, toying with the device.
This wasn't the watch that he'd started life with. Partridge gave this to me...
Thinking about him made him think about the woman sitting in front of him, so instead he stares-eyes moist. Praying she won't send him away with more hateful words

( these sounds carry meaning )
And something occurs to her.
"... Aren't you going to dose?"

All of these people...all of these people who knew him, who'd met him...who'd shown him..
Say something!
"Mary..."
Just saying her name makes his heart soar on the wings of a metaphorical idea that's been gone for years. Jurgen said that he was in love...
Does love make people absolutely insipid?
But he'd gladly sacrifice all of his training for her...
"...that's...a beautiful name..."
He read you were supposed to say that to women somewhere.
