A look at the little covered emotions, or lack there of, expressed by Greg in "Grave Danger" from the perspective of a Love shipper and Greg fan.
(22 very large pics, dial-up beware.)
In the beginning he is like everyone else, bah boring night, lets play a board game with Hodges. Plus, how frickin beautiful is he?
Our first glimpse of him after the kidnapping, relatively calm, and actually involved(I'm sure if cbs had had it their way he wouldn't have been in the episode at all). We want to see Greg overload and break down but we don't. Although if you watch close you catch quick frantic, even scared glimpses at everyone else.
He puts on the serious/angry face a lot, like he doesn't know how to feel, doesn't seem like it's real to him just yet.
He's ready to beat that guy's ass, as is everyone else, but while they're all worried he seems more anxious than anything, and checking everyone else's reactions yet again.
Greg is outwardly scared here. I'm just so mad we have yet to learn WHY he had such a wrangle on his emotions, for any situation, to CSI he's merely a guy hanging around, a filler. I'd love to see him developed as far as they did everyone else.
This was discussed at the fort, how he looks rather bored by the whole thing, and then someone, I can't remember who, said that when they get anxious/upset they sort of space out and seem like they're bored or uninterested but they're going crazy inside. Which is very true but a convenient cop-out for csi to not show Greg upset over the fact that his boyfriend has been fucking KIDNAPPED.
He doesn't get to feel anything, and no I'm not saying it should be Greg reaction hour but come on, everyone else gets something!
We are lucky he was standing to close to Catherine. Everyone else gets 2 close ups, he gets 0. That is not to say there weren't close ups filmed, I mean if Tarantino is such a big fan he has to see the subtext, too! And, Greg was on the team, he was effected as much as everyone else! I can just see tptb cringing at the thought of Greg showing emotion towards Nick. But Eric plays the little time he gets well. If you watch his eyes get bigger, he sighs(a lot in this episode...) and looks to Grissom helpless.
What else can he do? Stand there.
If you watch closely his eyes are weird, puffy. Then he wipes his eye as he goes to get the map...
It's visible how excited he gets when he finds the trigger wire. This sends a new wave of hope to us all, you can see it in his eyes.
This deserved it's own. He was so hopeful and then Warrick starts yelling, and his face it just screaming, "Can't you see this is effecting me too, you fucking asshole?!"
Warrick kicks the bottle, walks away. Then Greg finds a major break in the case, Grissom's ants can suck it k? He has this child like eagerness to him, I think that's what attracts people to Greg, and even Eric, it's a playful, happy thing.
He's the first to start brushing away the sand, and for the first time he's actually doing something physical.
Waste no time with masks, Catherine. It could have been Nick and you would be dicking around while Greg is digging up his love with his bare hands.
If I was Greg and my boyfriend was buried I would have my skinny ass digging. But he has to hold himself back, I can't imagine how that would feel. His face expresses so much, CSI made Eric into more of a look actor than talk actor.
I don't know. When Warrick says there's 90 minutes of air left he just sort falls.
I hate how calm he is. I mean in season 5, albeit he was a new CSI, he cried about some random vic, why not his boyfriend in a fucking grave?!
I love that he was the one to get the extinguisher, just..I don't know, giving him some kind of part in the rescue.
That scene after Warrick gets out of the hole kills me. It's obvious they added the screaming in post but it just makes it worse that everyone is standing there until Gil jumps in.
Pull, fly, ambulance, done. At least he got a close up there, and an individual one at that, that pan from Sara to Brass, GREG, Ecklie and Gil.
I may be exaggerating things but they seriously shaft Greg as a character to get back at Eric. We will probably never learn why he isn't emotional or what things lay in his past that make him who he is, trying to impress everyone and needing the attention. He's one big quirk and there is so much more to him that they just won't bring the the front. I would bring in Eric/George but that is a hour long discussion for me so I'll leave it at that.
EDIT: to clarify the above, I am a strong believer that Eric and George are together and have been for a long time. TPTB obviously see George as more of an asset than Eric and I'm sure would want nothing more than to get Eric completely out of the picture so that they can 'prove' once and for all both Nick and George are straight. With Billy slowly stepping out they are moving George on up to leading man status, as an actor I'm sure he can handle it but as a person it will only make things worse closet wise because to CBS and his people him being gay would somehow damage his career/image(hello, do the names neil patrick harris and t.r. knight mean anything to them?) when the only ones who will be butt hurt are the fangirls and his fanbase does contain some people with brains despite popular belief(plus he just broke up with the beard, how mad did that make them?). If you want to catch up on the entire story I suggest setting aside a while to read through
ericandgeorge, particularly the posts with 20+ comments. And Yes a bunch is speculation but when you look at the evidence(body language, inconsistency in 'monica' stories, blind items, early g/e pictures at award shows, etc.) it is almost impossible to miss.
