Ughh

It makes me sad when people hate on people 'cause of pairings. Why can't we all get along, man? I just want to stop shipping all together.

Maybe only pair canon couples..

But half the time-- What is canon? What counts?

Like, obviously, you got couples like Hershel/Claire (which I like). But most stories leave the romance ambiguous (which I like-- so ( Read more... )

soo deep, ughh, babbling, don't get me wrong!, just enjoy the story man, i got hurt feelings~, p/i is fine!

I dunno. Sometimes I... Okay, I have a lot to say about AA ships and the fandom, but I'm not gonna get into that because it'll be an essay no one cares about.

Basically, I try to live by the code of "ship and let ship." In AA I am a gratuitous Narumitsu slasher. I admit it. And you know, if you're (hypothetical 'you') really into a particular slash pairing in a genuine fashion (as opposed to LOLZ FOR TEH SEX or something), then... hooray! I'm really into P/E as a romance but I'm also into it as a bromance, because really, they're epic partners either way and I like being open to things. Best friends kicking ass is awesome, Y/N? I ship them BOTH WAYS for the dynamic because those two are just fucking awesome and that's how I tend to approach my other ships too. Also P/E would be such a dysfunctional trainwreck if portrayed accurately imo, but that's part of why I love it.

Like, I personally don't really ship Phoenix/Iris romantically after 3-5, P/E aside. I think Phoenix had lingering feelings or at least the memory of said feelings, like most of us tend to even years after breaking away from someone we fall head over heels for. But after 3-5, he's done a bit of growing up, and the idea that he stays in contact with her and they're friends always struck me as really, really sweet. But... due to the Dahlia baggage and the kind of person Iris is... I just... yeah. I don't find the romance appealing at that point. Cute, but "meh." But I'm not ever going to rag on people for liking it because that's just asinine. If you or anyone else likes it, that's totes cool and I don't have any authority to bitch and moan and be angry at it. But I digress.

What I'm trying to say here is that it's OKAY to ship slash AND bromance. It's not a contradiction, and I'll tell you why: Being open to ships that aren't canonly established, whether platonic or romantic, is open-mindedness. If you agree that something can go both ways, as opposed to "I ONLY THINK THEY SHOULD BANG EACH OTHER...but..." or "THEY WOULD NEVER BANG EACH OTHER ...but..." then there's no possible way you'd be contradicting yourself. It just means you have an open opinion and that shit is pretty cool, bro.

Me? I accept that P/E isn't canon. The subtext is there, boy howdy, but it isn't canon. Not romantically, anyway. I also accept that people don't like it. The issue with a lot of shipwank is really that the issue isn't so much THE PAIRING so much as how people react to one another.

i.e., I got some passive-aggressive bullshit directly thrown at me about P/E elsewhere on the internets at some point. It irritated the fuck out of me because a) that person was someone I trusted to talk to me if something made them uncomfortable and dishonesty irritates me, b) I HATE PA bullshit and c) I just didn't like the attitude, because it was like they were taking it personally.

And that I just don't get. People taking fandom stuff personally; a la the recent wank on Homestuck, but seriously that's another rant for another time.

but yeah, tl;dr; shipwank is stupid, it's okay to be open to things, it's okay to dislike things, and it's also okay to enjoy yourself while doing all of the above.

... oh look that turned into an essay after all.

SORRY \D;

Oh haha also ftr I love just enjoying the story of any media without going I SHIP IT all the time. But I like shipping things, aka toying with the idea of so-and-so getting together. AA's first three games are my favorite DS games ever because of the characters/story and no amount of shipwank is going to change that.

also the icon you're using is one I made--at withfireandiron. c:

/editing shit forever
