PART 2 of 6

The regularity of these kinds of trips had led Byron to one startling conclusion. People are cruel. Intentional or not, they are. Culture has bred civilations of two-faced bastards. Acting all goody-goody on the outside but back-stabbing on the inside. It's a fundamental human characteristic to be judgemental based almost exclusively on appearance. These are conclusions that can be drawn by seeing people for what they really are when no thought is sacred. When no passing judgement is confined is when people see others in a pure and truistic form.
He sometimes imagined what people would look like if their outward form took on the appearance of their inner personality. There'd be plenty of angels and demos around. Horns and halos. Some beasts more hideous than others and some angelic glows more bright. Maybe the two interlocking in some kind of ultimate struggle to repress the other once and for all. It would be a war the scale of which humanity has never seen. Or has it? The classic good versus evil. Right versus wrong. It's the same kinds of judgements humanity, on the grandest scale, faces each day it exists. Occasionally the darker side of people gets exploited and a wars break out. People are cruel.
Sometimes Byron would do a little exploiting of his own. Knowing what people think has its advantages. It's all too easy to make a few bucks reading a palm or playing the "pick-a-card" game for food money. He needs it because he doesn't like to be aorund his parents much anymore. Knowing the truth can be painful. Maybe they hate him and maybe not. Afterall he is a freak but he's their freak. Hell, maybe they don't even know. Maybe he's jsut too afraid to find out. So for that reason he's tried to put some distance between he and them over the past eight months.
That's how long he's been a practicing mentalist. It didn't all start out as fun and games. In fact, it didn't start out as much more than an occasional inner voice spurting off random offerings. It was all quite simple to ignore....at first.
