What a horrible, evil, hot, sticky weekend. No fun.
James was sweet and turned the AC to 70 in the bedroom. When I got up this morning for the bathroom, I nearly passed out from the heat difference between the bedroom and the rest of the apartment. I came back to bed, and he asked how much longer could I sleep if he drove me to work? I said about another 1/2 hour - so we turned off the AC and left the BR door open so I could slowly acclimatize to the heat, and I got up and out the door in time to get to work. :)
I'm spoiled. But we knew that.
Of course, the ulterior motive was that he wanted to use my car, but it was an easy trade off. :) And now I know to NOT set the AC so low that I can't get used to the rest of the house. Lesson learned.
He can't pick me up, he has his evening class tonight, but I'm sure it won't be as bad since once I get to the train, it has AC and then I just walk across the street home. And tomorrow I get to work from home since I have about a days' worth of online training to do before the end of the FY, and it's hard to do that training from a reception desk. Bleagh. I already have a LAN cord at home for the laptop, so I plan on doing my training in my air-conditioned bedroom, watching a movie.
It was SO hot this weekend we ended up ordering Chinese on Saturday night instead of cooking. We also planned a double-feature so we could justify hanging in Shan's AC'd living room all evening. With the kids, we watched Flash Gordon which everyone enjoyed. (Kate of course, loved the girly costumes.) and the adult movie was Vampire in Brooklyn with Eddie Murphy. The older kids (Jim and his friend Chris) watched it with us and Kate was asleep - but since she LOVES the Goosebump movies, she probably wouldn't have been too scared. Besides, we always tell her it's makeup and how the effects are done so she knows it's just pretend.
Next week is parade the circle, so I think the family is planning on coming up my way. That would be nice, and maybe I can avoid driving down next weekend. I may even go with them this year. I do love to see them, but if they're here all day, I won't see James. Then James and I could have a Saturday night. What fun!
I made a quart of peach flavored tea for work today. Since it's double-strength, I've been using a lot of ice. It's sad when ice cubes are melting this fast in an office building with air. I finally feel like I can stomach food though - I tried nibbling through the day yesterday, and that seemed to be OK, but I was really out of it. I do NOT do well in heat. James came home and made steaks though, and they were awesome. That boy can cook! :D
I ordered a 5 line retractable indoor clothesline this weekend, that should save some big $$ on drying costs. It's not ideal to dry clothes in an apartment, but it will help. If I use the dryer I spend about $10/week on laundry, if I don't I spend $5. That will add up over time. We agreed on where to hang it, and since I'm anal about my clothes, it won't ever be out unless it's in use. I may need more clothespins. Oooh!
I did nothing on my x-stitch yesterday, bad me - it was too hot to touch thread. I will try to do a double on it tonight. I'm in the home stretch on this piece that I've been working on for forever and I do intend to finish it this summer. If I don't, it will be hanging over my head when I start school this fall, and I don't want that. As soon as it's finished, I have two more x-stitch projects planned - one is a zodiac and the other is a peacock with gold trimming. Those will be fun. They will have to wait until I do my annual fight with the bobbin lace. That has to wait until the cottage project is done. I just wish I had any projects small enough to bring to the office. I'd SO sit at lunch and work on them if I could. But I can't. And it sucks. Foo. Hmm, maybe I can start a knitting project at work. I'll bet Kate would like a scarf made by her Aunt Patty. :)
It's June! Time to think about Christmas. Yes, I'm deranged. I'm going to use Shan's kitchen to make the cookies, mainly because I don't have the room. (think shoebox apartment and postage stamp kitchen) The plus side is that it means Jim and Kate will probably help me with the cookies. Jim is old enough to start learning the intricasies of the cream horns. I can give him the buckeyes and they can both help with the sugar cookies. Still looking for a puffy cut-out sugar cookie recipe, so if anyone has one, please let me know. :) I also need to think about collecting tins to put said cookies in. Lots of stuff to do, never enough time. And I do have to start thinking about it now, once school starts my focus will be on that and work.
