Homosexuality

Aug 08, 2012 12:40

I work with three people: my in-laws and another man who's a CPA and a former Sunday-school teacher.  My mother-in-law is nice enough to me but that's because I'm white and straight and, so far as she knows, devout Christian.  Now I don't consider myself Atheist or Catholic or Lutheran or Baptist or anything else.  I believe in doing good where you can and just trying to be a good person. I screw up a lot.  I'm human.

But my mom-in-law often discusses the homosexuals with Ernie, the other CPA in our office.  He's quite passive about the whole thing but has told Linda they should try to "fix" the gays.  Uhm - what?  And they go on and on about it for hours.  It must be a generational thing.  I don't know anyone my own age who really dislikes gay people.  Linda talks about them like they have a disease and need treatment.  It makes me sad.  Thankfully it's not forever.  Come the end of October Wylie's talking about retirement so I'll be job-hunting yet again.

Still, if I came in to work and started talking about how much I hate black people or Mexicans ... oh wait, my MIL already does that.

/sigh

work, linda, gays, prejudice
