Brennan, you are magic.
You guys. YOU GUYS. I think Bones has really been my favorite series this television season. Not because it's Bones and frankly, I'll watch Booth and Brennan fight crime anywhere, but because it's Bones and actual character growth happened. Not the kind that comes all neatly wrapped in a linear package, but the kind that really, truly allows a viewer to fall in love with a character, to empathize, and root for that character.
This season's undoubtedly been about Brennan, about the place she's in, about what she's been hiding about her relationship with Booth - not just from him and the others, but from herself. I mean, we've come to know Brennan through the occasional drops of history and the appearance of her dad. With Booth it's always been an emotional history; we know he has Parker and an ex, we know that he feels an unprecedented loyalty to his country and the kind of service he gave, and to the family he has whether it be related or not. But we've always known that about Booth.
Guys, it was just Brennan leaving tonight because of her commitment to rationale and her love for what she does, but it was the first time she really did something for herself, and herself in the right way. And then OH MY GOD, her and Booth, Booth leaving for the army (you're still skeevy, DB, but damn, the uniform) and this whole heartbreaking declaration of who they are, and how separate they are in what they believe, but how it really, truly is splitting apart two halves that make each other. But it wasn't just a declaration, it was acceptance and that was probably the most perfect display of love and adoration that I've EVER SEEN. And guys, I love my hand-holding. IT WAS PERFECT. It was so much more than a kiss - I feel like a kiss ( - even though, I'm waiting, Bones. Get on that next season!) would've completely cheesed the moment.
I'm sure I can say plenty more, but I really want to write fic. I will say this: give Bones a chance, a proper watch this summer if you're curious or haven't or I don't know why you're not watching, honestly, because this season really showed that a proper, adult relationship can be written and developed on television. FOX CAN HAVE A GOOD TV SERIES AFTER ALL.
Also I want Cam and Sweets to hook up. I'm about to write and watch Fringe now.
