You were the jailer of your murderer-
Which imprisoned you.
And since I was your nurse and your protector
Your sentence was mine too.

5. Sihnon is exactly the way she dreams of it, in memories, the silks and scents are still home, oh, home- it makes her ache for elsewhere, just for a second, but then she remembers. She can’t run from where she belongs and there’s nothing keeping her away. (Irony, yes?)
4. River is lost to the echoes of the ship that night, Kaylee to speechlessness, and Mal goes back to the dead. She doesn’t mourn him until she leaves on a half-empty smile from Zoe and watching (jealously) as Wash slides an arm around his wife’s waist. When she arrives back at the training house, she burns sacrifices. And it’s not the same.
3. She keeps a secret in a small wooden box. And every night, before she sleeps, her fingers brush against it and she tells herself just one more day (she’s never had the reason to use it) because it’s all that she needs. She won’t do it here or there, maybe in between. She’ll be (for a moment) just like everyone (herself). Drifting. Drifting.
2. All it takes is one shot and she falls back, quiet and betrayed, into Mal’s lap. Her vision is blurry and she thinks she hears Kaylee (maybe?) sobbing. She knows what he did, so she calls mei-mei gently (she’ll understand) and takes the younger woman’s hand. But she’ll forget transgressions, for that moment, and feel Mal’s hands (too rough) through her hair. He’s silent. And she’s silent. But she’ll know- going with family is like this.
1. She leaves without a glance over her shoulder, a quivering smile on her lips (graceful, child, graceful. never let them see you vulnerable.), because this is the way it was meant to be. (She only waited once for him to tell her stop.)
