character analysis: Judas

Mar 27, 2006 20:38

Matt gave me back the books and games I lent him today. Oh, I did not expect that. In my opinion the books and games were wonderful, SO WONDERFUL! Yaaaaaa!! Such good memories! It brings me sadness to see that Matt didn't like 'em as much as I did. ::le sigh.:: Maybe it's 'cause of damn school...or not. ::shrugs.::

WELL. I need to stop doing so much school work (funny I say that). It seems lately I can't do anything 'sides it. Grr. >:(

I've been playing Riviera again. It's VERY addicting. >D I drew a cute sketch of Ledah and Ein....uh. It seems to be misplaced now. o_O;; Where could it have gone? Gee, I hope someone didn't take it. -_-;;

And now without further ado, I bring you ... funeral clothes, the traditional black attire. I will attempt some (vague?) character analysis from here on. Oh and SPOILERS FOR TALES OF DESTINY 2 BELOW! If you don't want to be spoiled then please skip over the rest of this post. Thank you.

I've been thinking lately about the idea of death. As human beings, we go out of our ways to honor the lives of people who are now deceased. The concept of funerals have been adapted into many societies--it's part of us as a whole. When one thinks of funerals what type of words come to mind? Grief, separation, depression...and so on.

Now, I recently noticed that the last piece I wore to a funeral is now being used for my Judas costume. How very ironic. I may have subconsciously chosen them. My Judas is made of the same "material" in which the true character embodies! Death, departure, and the afterlife--you know the deal. Although I suppose it wouldn't be anyone else's funeral but his very own.

The atmosphere of a funeral can very well be compared to Judas' personality--for anyone who knows of Judas' character would understand. Let me inform those who don't know-- Judas is technically not alive during the second game; he was 'resurrected' by Elraine (to do her bidding, that evil Elraine!). In all truth, the real "Judas" died a long time ago before Destiny 2 took place. His true demise was during the first story--actually it was about only half way through the first game. Back to my point with the funeral business though--I find it appropriate that he returns dressed in black, I do. Not only that but his personality is very appropriate for his background. Another odd but interesting little factoid is Judas' mask. It is not a very good mask in literal terms since it doesn't really hide his face. I believe that he wears it for strength. I'm not sure if this is correct but I heard the mask material was actually a dragon's skull. Now, dragons are constantly represented as a symbol of power so maybe Judas is trying to reach out for power. Perhaps he is seeking power--whether it is an outside force or held within him--to continue his long journey.

If one takes the time to analyze his quotes in battle (the secret skill quotes) they may notice offhandedly that he repetitively speaks of redemption and being forgiven. Even one of his secret skills is entitled "True God Purgatory Temple." He probably feels bad about his actions in his previous lifetime and seeks some type of solace. This is probably why he agrees to guide Kyle out of the underground. Before Judas was told that Kyle was Stahn's son (the hero of the first game), he probably already had the feeling. Ah, cruel irony--Judas was yet again to guide an Aileron toward the coils of destiny. Haha. No wonder he is the ultimate embodiment of the irony of fate. :D

Of course, like all things absurd, they must fade back into the corridors of time. At the end of the Destiny 2 Judas' being just sort of...dematerializes. Either that or gets swallowed up by time itself. It's hard to explain--this is where the lines blur. But it's safe to say that after Destiny 2's story comes to a close, all the identities-- Emilio, Leon, Judas-- are no more. Silly Namco, let the dead be.

I'm happy that Leon...er, Judas finally acquires the peace he rightfully deserves. I think Namco did a superb job with Judas' role in Destiny 2. It was a suitable follow up to what Destiny 1's story left out. Although they never really talked about where Marian ran off to. She wasn't even in Destiny 2!

Silly me I'm getting off track. Anyway, if I type more I fear this will turn into an essay or term paper. So ciao for now! Oh and
I encourage all who actually read the above minirant/essay/whatever to please feel free to comment on it or add something! :D
