Spent the day in the hospital, keeping lolo company with my mom and brother. It's nothing real serious, he's getting a pacemaker this Wednesday. I've always associated the word pacemaker with guns. Like those revolvers cowboys use in westerns - I think I watched a show when I was a kid that referred to the guns as "peacemakers," the brand or model or something. So up until this afternoon, when I asked my mom, I never knew exactly what a pacemaker does.

The room was quite big - it had a couch, a ref, and cable TV (Destiny) so it wasn't really boring. I brought The Adventures of Kavalier and Clay by Michael Chabon, but I never got around to reading it. I slept in the morning and just listened to my iPod and watched TV after lunch.

Watched the Purefoods-San Miguel game, and a few minutes of Red Bull-FedEx. My friends and I were talking about how PBA games are becoming fun to watch again. I think it's because there are a lot more familiar faces, players we've watched since their first year of college. Thanks to the increased TV coverage and growing popularity of college ball (UAAP/NCAA and PBL), amateur players are getting more exposure so there's more hype when they enter the pros. People are gonna tune-in because they've watched these players grow, they've followed their careers from the beginning, and they want to see if they'll fair just as well in the next level. For example, I bet there are a lot more Ateneans rooting for Red Bull this year, after they drafted Larry Fonacier and Paolo Bugia. Not because Red Bull became stronger, but because it'll be like watching Ateneo in the UAAP again. There's more sense of attachment. And it doesn't hurt that all the games so far have been really close - icing on the cake! The last time I followed the PBA this close was during the mid-90's during Alaska's championship years. Good times, good times.

That said, I predict (and I hope) that there'll be an increase in PBA teams. The UAAP/NCAA is not only bringing new players but bringing a new audience to the PBA. I tell you, with the Fil-sham controversy behind, and the increase in amateur basketball exposure, the PBA is gonna get bigger soon. Hopefully the UAAP/NCAA sponsors will see this and join the fray in the PBA. Globe team? :) More teams will also desaturate the talent in each team! There are a lot of good players who have a lot of potential to grow and still-capable veterans just sitting on the bench because you can only play 5 players at a time. Sayang kasi!

Ok, end basketball geek speak.

I was gonna talk about how I was watching my mom take care of my lolo, and I thought to myself, "Can I do that when my parents grow old?" Take note, the question was "Can I.." because there is no "Will I.." I will, I owe it to them at the very least right. But can i? I don't even know if I can take care of my own kids let alone my parents. Hell, I don't even know if I can take care of myself by myself.

But I will. No question about it. That's what's important. And I guess how well I do, will be a testament to how much I learned from my parents. If that's the case, then maybe there's no reason for me to worry.
