Why can't my assignments be more like this? I was given the letter "A" by
versipellis and here are my thoughts on five fictional characters whose names start with that letter...
- Albus Dumbledore. Wait, hold on, Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore (yes that is totally one of my favorite scenes in all the movies). Of the Harry Potter fame. You may not agree with him, but you can't deny he's got style! Alright, I'll stop channeling Kingsley now. I think Dumbledore is quite the badass, but my favorite Dumbledore is the behind-the-scenes Dumbledore, the one who's chilling in his office, reading Transfiguration Today, commenting on how the Chudley Cannons are having a bad season, and telling Snape to do his bidding. Ha!
- Angouleme. One sentence summary of the Witcher saga: witcher Geralt, a professional monster-slayer, unwillingly teams up with friends and foes in his search for Ciri (girl-witcher, child-surprise, all around badass herself). Angouleme joins Geralt's party late in the game. She is young, outspoken (especially about the abuse she suffered at the hands of the monks) and always ready to leap into danger. Her dream is to settle down and open a brothel. She tells it like it is and I love her for it. Here's a very good artist rendering of Angouleme [deviantart].
- Misa Amane. Misa gets a bad rep, but like Dumbledore, you can't deny she's got style. In fact, she's such an excellent character to cosplay due the sheer number of outfits she wears. One of my favorite scenes is her drinking out of a bottle of wine like she just doesn't give a fuck. I could be wrong about this, but I think the only way Death Note passes the Bechdel test is because Sachiko and Sayu talk about Misa at one point.
- Aragorn. Aragorn is a typical solitary hero dude, one who is descended from high-up, and destined to rise from grimy obscurity of the present to multiple deeds of heroism and greatness in the near and distant future, respectively. He wields an awesome sword and a whole litany of aliases, but that doesn't save him from being kind of boring. Get a flaw already, Aragorn.
- Samus Aran. Space bounty hunter. I wrote a book(let) about her adventures in grade school, she basically captured my imagination. It's just her and her ship and a desolate planet full of crawling creatures, meandering monsters and hostile environments. What's not to love? It's true, the game itself (Super Metroid) doesn't tell you much about Samus, but when you play the game and go through all that messy shit together, well, you kind of take on that solitary bounty hunter persona and… you run with it!
…yeah.
