Behind the flashing lights and booming speakers and camera clicks and screaming fans, he can still hear that voice echoing in the back of his head. It never leaves him - it never leaves him alone. It’s something that’s always on his mind and worrying him, making him think more about it than he should, and taking his focus off of work and putting it somewhere completely different. It’s something that makes him blush and turn away and hide his face, hoping no one saw that out-of-the-blue blush pop up, out of no where.
“It won’t mean anything; it’s only for the show.”
He wishes it wasn’t just for the show and he wishes that the fear of making people mad and upsetting others would just go away. He wishes that for once, the lights would stay out long enough for a split second decision between the glances of screaming fans and flailing fangirls.
“You just pull away a little and no one will see. It’ll make everyone happy, okay?”
How could he say no to such a simple, crowd-pleasing request? How could he say no to the closest thing to a kiss he might ever get? Because what if, one day, he wasn’t the one to pull away? What if one day, when he finally musters up the courage to ask about why or why not, he’s pushed away and rejected?
“It’s just pretend. I promise.”
He knows that one day, whether it’s sometime soon or in the very distant future, he’s going to forget all about their deal and kiss him at a concert. People always talk about ‘ryanandbrendon’ or ‘ryden omg!’ or ‘ryrobden!’ anyway, and it sounds pretty good to him.
