apartment blues

I feel like I'm in an on-again, off-again relationship with the management here. Sometimes things work well, other times I'm so frustrated. Unfortunately it's one of the frustrating times. Our fridge has been wonky (this is the 2nd fridge that does not now freeze lettuce). A put a t-bone steak in the fridge overnight and it was slimy and yucky the next day. It was leaking water from underneath, then the temperature soared to 11'C (it's supposed to be max 6). We called it in and they suggested we defrost it. So I did. Then turned it back on and it did not get cooler. They brought us an 'emergency' fridge for the long weekend, then said they'd get the weekday guy to deal with it on Tuesday. Today I had the work guy come by and not believe me (or understand me?) at first. Then after the 2nd visit and saying he'd be back at 3:30 to pick it up he shows up after 4pm and is surprised to find it unplugged and ready to be hauled out. My understanding was he was going to take it away so I unplugged it and was mopping up the huge puddles of water it was leaving on my floor. Does he take it away? No. Apparently, he doesn't have time. If it doesn't 'embarrass' me he'd like to pick it up tomorrow.

I really don't know what to think. I feel like I'm being racist or something, but his first language isn't English and I'm not sure if he doesn't understand what I'm saying, he's sexist or he's just ignoring me. I'm tempted to get a small camera and mount it so that I can record our exchanges.

I missed going to the school and picking up keys and alarm code today because I was waiting for him. I'm positive that if I'm not here there will be no guarantees of what will happen. Now I get to put things that were in the way of the fridge move back where they were.

I'll see what tomorrow brings. Before he left I clarified that it was 9am and that he would be taking away the 2 fridges that have been in our tiny apartment since Saturday and would be bringing one new (probably just different) fridge to replace it. I'm almost tempted to threaten to buy a new fridge and charge them for it. This is starting to get ridiculous.

After living on our own, the novelty of apartment living is really wearing thin ... lucky thing we just went into a mortgage specialist and are starting to look at houses. :p
