On this day in 1979

Nov 21, 2004 19:41

- the world was just bracing itself for the Cold War to begin in earnest, as two superpowers fought for supremacy.

- pop culture was about to begin its slide into the overblown 80s

- my mum spent her birthday lying in bed with a sewn-up stomach having just bought a bundle of joy into the world named Danilo Gabibov-Vasilevich.

Anyway, so here's my first post in ages and it just happens to be my birthday... co-incidence? Desperate attention-seeking? Possibly, but I've been meaning to write something in my cob-webbed LJ for a while - just never seem to have gotten around to it :)

Got together with 2/3 of the Abyss crew friday night ('ta for putting up with us jaded old clubbers, Wayne & Nathan :) and then went off to Dream to see the other third of Abyss perform live :) Opera Macabre rocked, although the sound was a touch quiet at times. The S&M performance was at least relatively hardcore, but full of the usual "preaching to the perverted" style melodramatic pomp that I don't really go in for. Apparently the documentary is going to be shown on Channel 31 so if ya wanna see some bloodsports go find yourself a guide and stay tuned.

Rest of the night went by in a bit of a haze to be honest, eventually went to Sam's with a few people to continue the party, and continue the party did, well into the next day. After a change of scene early saturday afternoon, I caught up with some old friends later that night and we stayed up watching bad movies and South Park episodes. THEY TOOK ERRR JERBS!

After finally getting some sleep, mum came round to Sam's (for the first time) and the three of us went to see Bridget Jones 2 (mum loves Colin Firth... hey so do I too really). Unfortunately we all thought it was shit. And no, the movie doesn't really deserve more of a review than that. Now I'm just chilling with Sam and getting ready to go visit my dad soon. He's getting me new spectacles... yay for no more grandpa glasses!!!!

Anyway, special thanks go to Wendi, Wayne and Nathan for putting up their house for my entertainment on friday, same for Tom and Fiona on saturday, to Daniel for always being there for me and giving up so many weekends to help me with my car, to Jason for seriously making me laugh on saturday, and to Helen, Saskia, Michael, Nicole, Brad, Tamara, Rob, Pete, Nadine, Claire and Chris for finding time to spend hanging out with me at various points this weekend, and to everyone else who saw me out friday night or rang/messaged me wishing a happy birthday.

...and in my original post I forgot to thank Andy and Rhiannon for also coming to visit me on saturday, so I'm going to do so in this edited addendum. There we go, all better!

Most of all I'd like to thank my darling girlfriend Samantha who allowed her house to be used as a base of operations for my birthday shenanigans, who was always by my side no matter how crazy I was, and who got me the special German "red" uncut edition of "Dellamorte Delamore" on DVD, which I've wanted to get for AGES.

Anyway, still running on a tight birthday schedule, gotta fly, will *definitely* post more often. And no I'm not just saying that. Goodnight my fellow cholos!

Love Dan
