So nearly a year later....

I have returned from my self imposed banishment into the back of beyond...after having been bug-bitten, gotten poison ivy, removed ticks, learned how to use a weed whacker, and all manner of other disturbing and vaguely scary things later, and i wrote this yesterday...or maybe the day before, I forget, but here it is anyway.

Thoughts on 9/11

I am saddened to note that it seems as though people are already beginning to forget about the tragedy, sorrow, and sacrifices of 9/11. I realize that it is six years later, and thus time to move on; however the utter lack of feeling I saw on my college campus this year was disturbing.

We are becoming so desensitized by the violence and mindless killing, that we are forgetting the root cause of the Iraq war. I had people walking down the halls of my dorm stopping to look at my white board, simply because I recognized the anniversary of this tragedy. I received comments along the saddening lines of “Oh yeah, it’s 9/11 isn’t it…” then people simply moved on showing a complete and total absence of feeling. To be absolutely frank with you that scared me.

This is my generation; this is the generation that watched us go to war, again. This is the generation that saw the terrorists attack our country from televisions in our school classrooms. This is the generation that has lived with body counts for 6 years. This is the generation that watched the towers fall. This is the generation that is forgetting.

P.S. this is my white board on 9/11
