The father has a large, entirely organic garden; he and his wife deal with insects by hand, bug by bug. For larger pests, like chipmunks, he has an old double-barrelled 12-gauge he brought over from Holland. Emphasis on old; he recently had to have it repaired by this amateur gunsmith he knows.
Never take your gun to an amateur gunsmith. The father was out chipmunk hunting in the garden this summer, and took a snap shot with the butt of the gun braced against his bicep, instead of it being properly shouldered. The gun malfunctioned, firing both barrels at once.
The chipmunk was probably gibbed. His bicep was literally torn in two, and retreated up his arm to his shoulder, where it formed a large lump.
Being harder than diamond-tipped nails, he refused to go to a doctor for several days while his arm turned black.
He's OK now, but yeesh.
So torn bicep: ow, and glad to hear it's healing.
