Nov 12, 2007 09:28

This morning Bart woke up not wanting to run.

Something was terribly wrong here.

"Aaaaandreeeeew," Bart mumbled from under a pillow. Then winced at what the noise did to his head. This was so much worse than last time. "My head hurts."

And he had a weird rash on his arm that itched! Why did he have a weird rash that itched?!

Andrew was a light sleeper. Years of living with an older brother that constantly threatened to remove one of your toes so he could summon a Tarlock demon would do that to a person.

He didn't jump out of bed, exactly. There was some sheet tangling, so it was more of a graceless fall.

"Bart?" he called from the floor. "What's wrong? Where are they?"

Bart winced at the noise.

"Heeeeaaad huuuurts."

Andrew managed to twist out of the blanket and move over to Bart's bed. He crouched down next to his roommate. Speaking quietly he asked, "Were you out drinking last night? What do you need? I have some Tylenol."

"Does juice count?" Bart asked, peering out from under his pillow.

Andrew got very concerned. He had never seen Bart so... slow. Sitting down on the edge of the bed, he reached out to move Bart's pillow gently away and feel the boy's forehead.

"What hurts, Bart? Just your head?"

Lifting up his arm to cover his eyes, Bart also inadvertently showed off the spidery rash there. "I thought flu's were supposed to be fun."

"We need to get you to the clinic little guy," Andrew said, not liking the looks of that rash at all. "Can you walk?"

Nodding, Bart slowly sat up, wobbling a little. "I don't wanna run," He whined plaintively. Not wanting to run was scary, darn it.

"Not wanting to run is perfectly normal," Andrew said, hoping it was reassuring. Normal, that is, for just about anyone other than Bart.

Andrew stood up and went to slip on some shoes. Then he found Bart's and moved to help the boy put them on.

Bart frowned down at his feet. "I thought Ronan and Katara fixed it."

"Maybe this is a different flu," Andrew said as he finished tying Bart's shoe laces. "I'm sure they'll be able to knock this one out too. Magic is cool like that, right?"

He straightened up and held out a hand to the roomie, trying to smile. "And when they're done, I'll make sure you get all the ice cream you want."

Taking Andrew's hand, Bart perked up slightly. "Really? Can I get chocolate?"

"You can get chocolate. I'm kind of in a chocolate mood myself." Andrew gripped Bart's hand tightly.

"If you need to lean on me or anything, feel free. I went to the gym a couple of weeks ago, so I can totally take it. In fact, I could probably carry your scrawny butt. That's how buff I am."

Bart chuckled weakly at that. "That's because you're so much taller than me too!"

"That's right. I'm a veritable giant compared to you, and don't you forget it," Andrew joked as he led Bart out of the room.

"You sure you're going to be able to make it on your own two feet?"

"Yup!" Bart said, trying to sound a bit more chipper so Andrew wouldn't get worried. "Just not up for running now."
