OK.
So I am totally not a Dan Brown fan.  My mother LOVED The DaVinci Code, so when everyone was reading it a few years ago I thought I should give it a shot.  We didn't have a copy of The DaVinci Code handy, but we did have Angels & Demons, so I cracked that open and gave it a go.  Oh boy.  That was a truly craptacular novel.  Never mind the ( Read more... )

I have not read the Da Vinci Code, pretty much because of comments like yours from other people whose opinons I respect. I haven't enough time for all the GOOD books out there.

But I have had to tell people in discussions that it is a work of fiction and is therefore full of MADE UP STUFF. Sigh.

In the back-handed good news column, however, if Brown can get published, surely the rest of us stand a chance.

The DaVinci Code was and still is the only book I've stopped reading out of disgust. Not the subject matter - I couldn't care less - but the abusive use of chapter cliffhangers. And, well, basically everything else you already said about his writing.
Ugh.

I thought the da vinci code was all right for what it was: a dimestore gumshoe detective thriller. Not some OMG major feat.

Thank the stars someone else thought it was crap.. as in all of them. I read it nay.. struggled to finish it. Frankly in my opinion this book *is* one of the reasons the quote "This is not a novel to be tossed aside lightly. It should be thrown with great force." was coined.

How it got to be so popular is beyond me.

Speaking of "Dan"...is that Daniel Radcliffe in your icon? (I'm assuming not) 'Cause every time you use it, I immediately think, "it's Harry Potter in drag!" ;-D

Ha ha! It totally isn't Mr. Radcliffe, but I love that you thought of him! I think the images are from an old cosmetics campaign, but it might have been from Vogue or W or some other fashion magazine. This icon's from the same collection of pictures.
