Discussion Question + News: 'Stealing Athena' author launches new blog

Mar 12, 2009 16:29

Some of you may remember my review of Stealing Athena from last summer; it's a richly-detailed book centering on the Elgin Marbles, a hotly contested collection of Greek sculpture.  (If you haven't had a chance to check it out, it's highly recommended.  The book, that is.  Also the marbles.)  The author, Karen Essex, recently re-launched the blog on her website so that readers can "track" her progress as she works on her next novel.

Few details have been released about her current project, save that it is to be a Victorian Gothic novel set in London.  But check out the blog; she has a lovely tribute to the late Bettie Page in an older post.  (Karen Essex actually co-wrote Bettie's official biography.)  Her dispatches from London as she immerses herself in the proper ambience for a Vic-Goth novel should be quite entertaining if they follow the example set by her first few entries.

Discussion Question: So, what author blogs do you read?

Some of my favorites:

1. Neil Gaiman  The guy sets the standard for awesome author communication.  He updates almost daily, and has a great balance between current projects, family, "behind-the-scenes" and answering questions from readers.  Whether he's talking about his dog's surgery, Coraline or elf-detector certification, it's always interesting.  (Or sad.  His father passed away last week.)

2. Michelle Moran  Michelle doesn't write about being an author or even her daily life in her blog.  History Buff  gathers up the latest news in archaeology, anthropology and science to keep readers up-to-date on history-in-the-making.  Neat stuff.  She also does interviews with other historical fiction authors.

Your turn!
