So good to see you reviewing one of my favorite series of books!

As someone familiar with these books, I feel it necessary to say that these books really need to be read in order. There are certain events and recurring characters introduced not only in the first book but in the subsequent books that could only cause confusion for a reader if they started in the middle of the series. Plus, it is also interesting to watch the characters grow and change over the course of the books.
