Job Posting Summary:
Assist with stream ecology and hydrology studies examining the influence of hydrology on carbon and nutrient dynamics in boreal forest streams and rivers. Collect water and soil samples from the field; assist with measuring stream flow; assist with chemical analyses in the laboratory; assist with laboratory-based experiments; aid with data entry. Field work will be conducted at the Caribou Poker Creeks Research Watersheds and the Bonanza Creek Experimental Forest near Fairbanks.
Knowledge, skills and abilities required for this position:
The person hired into the position will need basic ecological and chemical principles; general knowledge of ecological sampling techniques. The successful application will have skills to with working independently, data entry, collecting and recording, maintaining accurate data on spreadsheets, and working in a field environment. Ability to accurately collect, record and organize data in notebooks; undertake rigorous physical work and long hours in sometimes harsh weather conditions; work closely with fellow workers and supervisors as well as working independently, work on a tedious task until completed.
