*blows out a deep breath*
So was that just hard for anyone else to watch? I want to re-watch it to get my head around things even more but I'm kind of drained. I was rivited. It was awesome and it kind of changes everything. The perspective of the show I mean. For a long time Mary was only seen as the victim of this random evil that a family learned to fight back against. Then with her little "I'm sorry", we knew something was up. Then when she walks in on the YED and Sam and says "It's you." I literally gasped and stood up from my chair...and have been wondering what was really up with that ever since. And now we know she knew about this crap all along and as a poor kid driven by grief and fear is pretty much the cause of it all. More importantly than us knowing it, Dean knows it. And Dean now knows more than Sam knows and neither of them know the other knows anything. *clutches heart*
And John? John was just a sweet guy from Kansas who wanted to marry his girl and have some kids and fix cars. He turned into something he never knew existed that his wife had always been and never wanted her family to be. *reels*
Oh Sam. What are you up to? And I love Sam, I really do, I'm just marginally more of a Dean-girl. And while it was weird for him to be so absent in an episode, I didn't really miss him. It seemed to need to lack Sam, since so much of this episode is still about him and what he might turn into. I predict next week is going to start with Dean barging in on Sam practicing his demon mojo and freaking. the fuck. out. *shakes with anticipation*
Castiel. He's bringing down a lot of hurt and making some pretty strong threats, but I think he really doesn't want any harm done on the Winchester boys. He could probably kill Sam off like *that* but either because of what it would do to Dean (and Dean's suddenly important to the powers that be), or the fact that Sam isn't totally corrupt (yet), he isn't. And how cool was that "you have to stop it" trick. Not all of the happenings of your family Dean, you never had a chance; but what your brother might turn into and do. *strokes fake beard in thinking*
I thought the casting of the guest stars was pretty excellent. Hot young John really wasn't like the JW we know, but definitely in a good way. I think there were still a little of his characteristics in there though, like being untrustworthy of Dean in the car lot (but I'm probably just wanking).
I thought young Mary was really great (especially considering the hit-or-miss young actresses this show has). She never took me out of the story and despite the heavy handed-ness of the "I don't want my kids living like this", I was really moved by all of her heavy scenes.
I always peg Sam as being so much like John, but he's not so different from his Mom now is he?
The Daniel Elkins continuity was nice. I like when he lets Dean go because he just understands.
Mitch Pileggi as the Winchester boys grandfather? Awesome. Mitch Pileggi as the YED? Awesomer. I love the X-Files but quit watching when Mulder left. I watched it as a kid and my big sister lectured my parents for letting me. They were like "It doesn't scare her, what's the harm?". I always loved Skinner. His performance was great. Both as a dad and a hunter and Yellow Eyes.
*fistpumps for all the guest stars*
And how about our lead boy? Jensen was just amazing. His face when he's pinned up against the wall and realizes it's the YED and just goes from surprise to rage. And his despair when he sees Mary making a deal. And his look to Castiel on the threat of the angels taking out Sam. *is killed ded*
I still need to think on a lot of it. Timey things are tricky.
Oh, and I really love hearing Dean/Jensen saying my name. ;)
