Gary Gygax died today, and of course I'm sorry he's passed on. Had I met the man I probably would have slapped the shit out of him. He stole the system from Arneson and held out for years trying to keep the credit (and the money) away from him. One of my early gaming groups called him the "E.G.G." and we firmly believed he was cracked. He took a DM-centric system and made it one giant monty hall. He was a player, not a dungeon master, and no where was that more evident in the terrible state of the first DMG, I saw one copy where the last 50 pages were from the monster manual!
Anyway, it's for the best that I never met him. Even now, 30 years after I first picked up the dice, he still pisses me off.
