Self-entitled nerds, redux.

Apparently, a lesbian player1 asked why there were no gay characters in WoW2 at Blizzcon.

The rampant butthurt in response has to be seen to be believed.  The tone argument was trotted out (never mind that she seemed a bit apprehensive about asking that particular question).  Someone claimed to think that the woman was on the verge of announcing that men are pigs3 or something of the sort, apparently because she pulled a bit of a dubious expression in response to the answer.  (A less polite person than myself would probably say something about projecting one's own hostilities...)

And, of course, there were the typical whines about "entitlement."  As I asked several people: how is it any skin off your nose if the game doesn't cater exclusively to you?  The way some of you freak out...well, let's just say that I'm drawing my own conclusions about who's acting "entitled" here, and they go pretty much counter to yours.

"But but but...her question was a waste of tiiiiiime!"  As far as I'm concerned, every goddamn question about PvP is a waste of time.  You don't see me trying to shout people down for asking them.  Would you be freaking out this much if her question had been about female characters?  Either way, it says a helluva lot about you.

On a (slightly) less touchy topic: draenei and blood elf monks are perfectly appropriate and even had prior precedent.  Get over it.  Additionally, I finally did end up quoting Lewis.

ETA:  Now, the Awful Forums are harping on that poor girl's girlfriend for having the gall to pipe up there.  Apparently, the only reason one would ask a controversial question is because they "just want attention."  There are no words.

1. OMG, not all WoW players are hetero males?  That can't be true!  It says something about us as a society that such a stink was made about that alone.

2. Not entirely accurate.  But WoW has no equivalent of, say, Uriel Chuluun and Kira Thanos.

3. It should be noted that the only self-proclaimed feminist I've heard actually say "men are pigs" is...my husband.

rant, fan fiction, nerds are embarrassing, nerdrage, all wow forums are a bad joke, qq moar
