Rashomon for maladjusted nerds...

People's stories were told-and not always with their prior knowledge.  Further accusations were made.  The project, of course, got trampled in the scuffle.  And the Internet, as is its wont, ran rabid.

My two main conclusions are as follows:  The situation doesn't strike me as nearly as cut-and-dried as the Web has declared it (for one, the alleged de facto confession doesn't seem to have ever actually happened), but the trauma seems to be quite real.  And while I don't personally know any of the parties at the center of this imbroglio, I'm not sure if I'd want to.

Is anyone involved in this sordid mess an evil, lying phony who's getting a perverse thrill out of it all (as some people would have us believe)?  I've got no fucking clue.  And neither do you, unless you either were actually there or are omniscient:  Speak of principles as much as you please; revile me for calling a thing by its proper name if you must...but all we actually have here is hearsay at both fucking ends.  On the Internet, no less.

But based on the decided edge of histrionics to the behavior of everyone at the center of this?  I've seen plenty of evidence that they've all got serious issues-possibly to the degree of needing professional help.  (And still more evidence that your typical e-mob is a vicious beast that oughtta be put down like a sick dog.  But I won't go into that.)

So what I suppose I'm trying to say is this:  I've been abused, and I've been smeared.  Regardless of who's culpable here and who's telling the truth, this whole fucking kerfuffle is...okay, I'm gonna come out and use the word...triggery.  (Yes, that's a word, goddammit.)  It hits both my abuse triggers and my defamation triggers.

All in all, I can't even begin to count how many people directly or indirectly involved ought to be ashamed of themselves.  Suffice to say that it's not just one.
