Hurrah for the first round! It was swell and fun and I enjoyed it immesely!

That said, I am going to put the cat among the pigeons voting wise.

I really hate the way voting is done in lims. This is a challenge as I love the structure of a lims. I find voting at lims reductive and not if any use at all. People are going to like an icon and they are going to find a reason to vote for it. Same goes with icons they don't like. They will look at the icon and they will search for the reason to give (either positively or negatively) I had exactly opposite feedback quite a few times last round which I found useless. I actually think asking people to vote on technical reason only, is a farce in any icontest. People don't choose icons for technical ability. They choose they because they strike a cord, they like the emotion portrayed, they like the text or the colours. If someone finds an icon they really love they won't care if it is slightly oversharpened. Same goes with icons they dislike. Even if it is beautifully made if they don't like the subject or the crop or whatever, nothing you can do will make you like it. Icon making is at it's very heart subjective, I feel to force constraints on it only cause more problems. I know this cause I have done all the things I have just listed myself.

i think you would get a lot more votes in if you made it just ordinary poll for votes and asking the voter to leave one piece of constructive crit for any icon in the batch. That way you can satisfy the people who do it for the feedback and satisfy the people who aren't. I know it sounds really lazy and melodramatic but I hate having to come up with 4 reasons that I like or don't like something. Which is why I usually drop off near the end.

Fell free to unscrenn. I am waiting for the flaming pitchforks coming my way. :)

Actually that sounds like an okay idea to me. I can make a post about it and see if the comm would prefer it. Maybe make the reasons optional (tho like you said, with at least one).

I agree with you that it's mostly subjective, and even when you try to vote focused on technical you end up going at least with the type of icons you like more often than not.

Lol, I don't know about that. But none of the awake people are coming here, that's for sure!

I actually agree with this. Not a big fan of the voting in LIMS..

I do like your idea of the polls. that's what they're doing i another community that I'm in that's doing a LIMS thing right now. It's a simple poll.
