Huzzah!

Okay, today was pretty toilet... The temperature in the office hit a record high (36 degrees) and really... That's just not nice.

But still, I'm feeling rather acomplished :3

Last night was spent playing around with something that I always wanted to program and I finally managed to cross the mental gap between wanting to do and actually doing :3

As a result, I now have a fully functioning personal encryption system. Whilst it isn't 100% secure (being based on an existing encryption system which is known to have been eventually cracked) it is still somewhat improved on the original, beautifully simple method.

Better yet, it's tiny =o-O= 6.2 kb as a text file containing the source... which compiles up to a fully running .exe file of 88kb.

I'd put more detail on how it works (as I'm actually quite proud of it) but :x Well, the best locks are the ones that no one has seen inside of. xD

Only problem is configuring what could be termed the password... It's more than a little unwieldy at the moment... (took me a good half hour to write the password out, it's long, and if you mess it up, it won't work... Needless to say, it's more of a software key than a password as such.

I'm still debating the benefits of converting to a password based system (Which can be guessed, told, keylogged or rubber hosed (coerced) but without it you're stuffed) or a key based system (which can be deleted, corrupted or left lying around... And if you lose every copy of the key, you're fucked)

But I digress... Why would I want such a thing?

Meh, I like to write but I'm too shy about the whole thing to want to risk letting people read it... Thus, the vast majority of my work gets about half way through chapter 1 and then gets deleted and hard drives defragmented (It's a problem I've had through people forcing their "creative influence" on me... I'd rather see the stuff destroyed than give certain people a chance to tell me how they would have done it)

Anyhow, those few people who may remember my only work -EVER- to make it out on the web? Well... There just might be a part two on the way :3

But yeah :) My first bit of fiction has arrived and decoded just fine... The test worked on live data, and I'm feeling rather chuffed at having a neat little utility that may well come in handy in the future :)

*Chuckles* Best of all, right now, I know there are password breakers for other commonly used password mechanisms (Zip files anyone?) I also know that there are none for mine xD

Anyhow, it works... and I finally managed to finish something I started :) So I am pleased to bits.

(Heh... yeah, I'm tired and prone to rambling, sorry for making you all read all that xD but it felt good to write *Hugs anyone who got this far and probably makes 'em regret reading all the way*)
